Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Chiang Rai, Thailand. Today the world is exhaling and rejoicing with the news that all of the boys and their coach trapped in the cave in Thailand have now been rescued. It’s not surprising that this situation has received global media attention – it was so unique (probably, better described as unprecedented)! People from all over the world were watching how it was unfolding with great interest and compassion. There was no politics involved here, just simple human desire to see everybody safe and alive!

Over 1,000 people were involved in the rescue operation, including Thai Navy Seals, volunteers and technical assistance teams from all over the world. One death occurred during the rescue: Saman Kunan, a 38-year-old former Thai SEAL, asphyxiated on 5 July while attempting to pass through a narrow passageway on return to the cave entrance after delivering supplies of air to the interior.
